Top Tips on Being Daring With Floral

Flowers continue to influence design. However, they can be intimidating when designing an interior scheme.

In her recent show ‘Get the Look’, designer Kathryn Raywood took a bold approach to a living-room makeover, showing us how to strike the right balance when using floral design.  The finished room also happened to include our very own Antique Wood floor.  We thought we’d share some tips for achieving the look.

To keep ‘flowery’ looking modern, use a fresh colour palate.  An easy way to construct a colour scheme you like is to choose the background colour of a floral pattern and make a decision that this is the primary colour and then repeat this for the second and third colours.  If you need assistance, Design Seeds will not fail to inspire with lots of readymade colour schemes:

Balancing patterns means the careful use of plain surfaces; think about walls, floors, fabrics and key features.  Kathryn used block colours on the walls in this scheme;

She continued by choosing a neutral sofa and rich dark flooring that had a vintage feel, perfect for floral schemes.  Our Antique oak flooring was used to great effect:

Kathryn also mixed the variety of print sizes, this helps work a contemporary theme through the room.  The plain nature of the sofa offers the opportunity for it to be dressed with floral prints.

The chair was used as a focal point.  Chairs offer an excellent opportunity to be bold with pattern;
