Grand Designs Retrospective

This week we’ve been exhibiting at the Grand Designs show 2012.

Our team of experts have been providing invaluable advice on projects ranging from single room makeovers to enormous dream-house builds. Literally thousands of visitors to the show have come through the stand over the last few days and we’re expecting quite a few more before the show ends on Sunday.

As well as our team manning the stand, we’ve also been out and about taking a look at what else the show has to offer. And as ever, the exhibition hasn’t failed to impress.

As with our own striking stand design, the Best of British theme has been very popular at this year’s show. What with the Jubilee and the Olympics, national pride and identity is at a high. That sense of pride is clearly being expressed through the designs and products on show at this year’s exhibition.

You don’t get any more British then HRH the Queen. These inventive illustrations of Her Majesty (one by Mike Edwards and one from EyeStorm Gallery) are just two of many royalty themed images on display.

With our own heritage in Britain, championing homegrown design and manufacturing has always been central to our business. A perfect demonstration of British manufacturing

excellence is this stunning Lincoln Longcase from Marcus Wilkinson Clocks. The amazing aluminium case is an eye-catching modern twist on the traditional and the Union Flag on the back is a very nice touch.

There are many other nods to British culture featured (such as the Smeg fridge below) as well as many examples of excellence and innovation in design – something which we love at Amtico.

One of the best examples of true innovation which we saw while wandering through the show was from the Ray Shelf company. The modular concept and bold modern design wowed us immediately, and after speaking to designer Matteo Gerbi about the local production philosophy, we were definitely won over. Another incredible success story and demonstration of simple and effective product design was from Wonderbag. This amazing culinary innovation is the essence of practicality and needs to be used to be believed!

We’ll be in attendance at the show until Sunday, so if you need any flooring advice or project help, pay us a visit in the Grand Interiors Hall, stand number L310.

See you there!
