As the creator of the iconic YO! Sushi and YOTEL brands, Simon Woodroffe is something of an inspiration to our designers. So when we were invited to partner with the entrepreneur on his latest project, a reinvention of the urban apartment, we were naturally thrilled.
YO! Home premiered at the 100% Design exhibition in September last year. This ‘home of the future’ attracted plenty of interest at the show, with visitors stunned by Simon’s new concept for compact living.
At 80sq metres, YO! Home appears to be a standard one bedroom apartment. But with the simple flick of a switch or touch of a button, the space provides a second bedroom, dining room, office, full-size kitchen and even a wine cellar and cinema.
Simon’s vision is to revolutionise contemporary living with YO! Home’s intelligent design solutions. Being part of this cutting-edge concept with such a diverse range of influences – from Japanese architecture, to yacht engineering and theatre stage sets – was certainly a compliment.
Flooring for the ‘home of the future’
YO! Home selected Amtico’s Spacia Silk Weave flooring for their stand at 100% Design and recent prototype.
According to Nicholas Tardent, Manager of YO! Company, finding suitable flooring was easy with Amtico: “We chose Amtico from the outset because we know and trust their products. We selected Spacia Silk Weave because we wanted something more abstract and contemporary than stone or wood.
“One big thing that affected our choice with this specific product was its soft fabric effect, which we felt would add an extra touch of sophistication to the overall impression of YO! Home.”
The first YO! Home is already being planned in London and similar developments could soon be popping up in Hong Kong and New York. In the meantime, we’re eagerly awaiting the next YO! creation.
